With Pitbull haters. And if I lose followers over this, then so be it.
I’m so sick and tired of seeing headlines on the news about “When Pitbulls Attack.” People are so quick to judge this dog breed that it just breaks my heart and I get so worked up over it. Does no one remember when Rott’s and Dobie’s had the bad reps? I guess it’s the Pitty’s turn right now but it’s just so devastating to me…
I have ALWAYS wanted to save a Pit and when Brody fell into Kenny’s lap one day, I was ecstatic. He is honestly the most fun loving dog I’ve ever seen. All he ever wants is for someone to pay some attention to him.
I know what y’all are thinking… you’re a Pit owner, of course you’re going to say that. But I haven’t always been one. I’ve just done my research and with a little bit of discipline, these dogs can be the sweetest things you’ll ever meet. But rest assured, if anyone ever breaks into your house or threatens your child, you best believe they will destroy that person. Not all Pitty’s fight or attack just to draw blood. They do it to protect the ones they love.
I have to blame all the irresponsible owners of Pitbulls out there for giving these creatures such a bad reputation. What is so wrong with just loving your animal?! I just don’t get it.
Let’s talk about my doxie, Frank. He will go ape shit if you even so much as come near his territory… his territory being anything within sight for him. He’s a complete asshole and refuses to let anyone pick him up, let alone pet him unless it’s on HIS terms. Brody, on the other hand, wants nothing more than to jump into your arms and give you kisses. So moral of the story is: Brody – loves people; Frankie – hates people.
I’ve never seen a dog get along so well with my little handicapped brother, Charles. Typically, when he tries to yank on my parents’ Golden Retriever or Basset Hound they turn and try to snap at him. Not Brody. He loves every minute of it. Granted, he can get a little too excited and starts tackling Charles (who, by this point, is laughing so hard he can’t breathe), but the fact of the matter is, he loves being loved. Don’t even get me started on how neither Brody nor Frank have any sense of space. They take up more of the bed than 3 people would. And they walk all over you as if you were just a piece of furniture. Redic.
So, that’s my rant on Pitty’s. I love them; always have, always will. And since Brody lives with Kenny, I’m missing both of them terribly right now.
So throw these poor little guys a bone, will ya? At least try? Please, and thank you.
Oh and as a side note... I REFUSE to wear any Nike products anymore as they have that damn Michael Vick as their spokesperson. They say 'they've forgiven him for what he's done.' I'm sorry but I can't fogive people who commit acts of animal cruelty. Ain't gonna, ain't gonna do it.

I 100% agree with you on this. Pits get such a bad rap but spend 10 minutes around one and it will change you. Humans are the problem. Any animal can be a "killer", its all a matter of how you train them. I have a 125lb Bullmastiff, who was once called a Pit Bull but an ignorant, senile old lady with a 2 lb hair ball of a dog. I went off on her and told her to do her research. Just because my dog who looks mean and has a large square head, growled at her dog who came onto our property and near my 2 yr old, does not make him a pit bull. And when I told her that he wasn't a pit, she asked me if I was sure. It's the uneducated people like her that I want to slap.
AMEN.
I don't own a pit or anything, but I am a dog lover in general. I agree 100%, and even before I finished reading that dog whisperer quote, I was thinking in my head, "what about the owners??!"
It really sucks that they get such a bad rap.. Wtf.. nothing is "evil" by itself. I wish people, the real assholes, would maybe take a peek in the mirror before condemning an entire breed because its easier to blame the animal for violence than it is to take responsibility and blame themselves for poor training.
Not going to lie... I get sadder in movies when I find out the dog dies than if the human does.
I would love to own a pitty some day (even with the jowl drool)! The two times in my life that I've experienced violent, aggressive dogs were a lab and a golden retriever (and I've owned 3 labs and a golden, and they were total sweethearts). Just like with kids, it's not all genetics- environment plays a (big) role, too. I love your "I'm more afraid of your ignorance than you are of my Pit Bull" button! :D
Dobermans and shepherds and rotties beat the bad rep, so hopefully pit bulls will, too.
But I'm boycotting Nike now, also- thanks!
agree 100% Its really the owners that make these pits into mean animals that attack others. My ex has a pit and he is seriously the biggest baby, gets bossed around by the yorkie in the house. If there werent so many fools out there making it a "statement" to own a pit there wouldnt be such a misconception.
i totally agree! i think the way they are raised or taught to act is how they can be violent. just like any other dog! i worked at a pet store and i have seen numerous pits come in and they were so friendly!
I don't have a pit bull or anything, but I think it's ridiculous that people act like every pitbull is mean and going to attack you. Like everyone is saying, I really think it depends on how they are raised/taken care of. I think you could make any dog into a mean dog with how they are treated you know? I love all animals! <3
I love this! We have a pit lab and when he was a pup everyone thought he was so sweet and cute. Now he's 62 pounds and people stay away unless they are a pit owner. He's such a gentle soul (unless he's playing) and it kills me they get such bad reputations. People need to realize its not the dog thats mean it's the people who raise to be mean. Take the time to know a pit and you'll fall in love!
Ahhhhh, of course you know that I love this!! My sweet pit would never hurt anyone...unless of course they were hurting me! Haha. Love our sweet pit bulls. Little babies!
yes. yes. YES! i agree 100%.. the pitbull is very intelligent and pleasant breed when raised appropriately. they can be very intimidating by their size, but that's not to say they are mean and/or aggressive. the only pitbulls i have ever been in contact with were my aunts and they were the biggest babies i have every met. not like shy babies, but sweet babies. i would barely get seated in the floor and they would crawl up on my lap, licking my face, just wanting some affection.
if i had the room, and money, i would absolutely adopt a pitbull or two. one day i will. i have three dogs and two cats at the moment, and it's expensive! haha.
thank you for writing this. i love it! they deserve a chance to be loved, like any other breed out there.
I don't own a dog, but I totally agree with you. People are so quick to point fingers.
AMEN!!!! I have two dogs that are both half pitt, and they are THE sweetest animals on Earth. I've actually never met a pitbull that I felt threatened by. On the other hand, I've met plenty of tiny yappy dogs that charge at anyone who comes in the door! My sister has a chihuahua that is absolutely evil until you sacrifice your meal to him (brat!)
OMG I love this! I have three pitties! I love them as though they were my children!!!
That story about Oogy is precious!
Oh my gosh, I love this post. I agree, people are so quick to judge pit bulls claiming they're mean, but the dog wouldn't be mean if the owner didn't teach him/her to act that way towards other people. I have friends with pits, and they are just the sweetest!
Your dogs are precious! They make me miss our Golden Retriever that passed away last summer. Thanks for commenting on my blog today. Following you now!

i have NEVER met a mean pitbull in my life. they are beautiful dogs and very loyal. it's a shame they have such a bad rep. you're a good person for posting this.
I wanted to adopt a lab/pit mix that we found but we couldn't risk her hurting our little chihuahua mix and I was pregnant. I still feel guilty about it because she was sweet. Maybe one day we will adopt one but probably not with little kids. Don't hate me! It's just not worth the risk.
Dont hate me either but I agree with the last commenter. With small children, I could just never risk it. This is coming from someone who has not had the best experience with pitbulls. A stray one showed up in my cul de sac. There were several small kids playing, one holding a small dog. The pitbull jumped on the girl, ripped the dog out of her arms and killed it on the spot.
That said, I have no idea the dogs history and what caused the dog to snap. I HATE dog fighting and mistreatment of any dog, and I think that pitbulls are probably a great loyal dog, otherwise there wouldnt be so many people who have them and love them.
I feel similarly about rottweilers. My best friend has a gorgeous rottweiler (named Vegas!) who, although is a massive dog who could kick ass if necessary, is really the sweetest thing ever. Coming from someone who has never owned a dog: AMEN!
